Coastal Tiep (Fr)

2012 bay gelding by Coastal Path ex Jaltiepy (Fr) (Monjal (Fr))

A winner first time out over fences this season and twice a winner last season there is no doubt that Coastal Tiep heads into this year as one of the most exciting Ditcheat Thoroughbred horses in the team.

A great horse to have around the yard, he has real character, something that comes through in his races.

It is clear that Coastal Tiep is a horse with stamina in abundance and we are looking forward to him stepping up to three miles at some stage this season. A point to point winner earlier in his life makes jumping fences the natural thing to do with him this year and we have little doubt that is where he can really make his mark. His best form has come on a sound surface so we will be cautious not to run him when the mud is flying.

A consistent horse with a level of ability well above average, Coastal Tiep is a young horse to be kept on the right side of.

PAUL’S POINTERS

Winning his point to point gave him an excellent education. Now being in the teams care he is a horse I can see maturing mentally as well as physically. I liked the fact he was good enough to win on his debut, despite his blatant immaturity. His pedigree is laden with stamina and he will now make his presence felt in novice chases.

Originally purchased by Ryan Mahon at the Goffs Land Rover sale in Ireland, Coastal Tiep was broken in and brought on at Ditcheat before heading to Jack Barbers with the intention of running in a point to point in the spring 2016.

Jack has dealt with a number of Paul’s young horses over the last few years, giving the essential experience of training and racing before they are ready to go to Paul’s yard.

He impressed Jack last year with a natural jump and ease of his stride. When the day came he was ready to make his debut, his temperament was tested to the max when carried out in the first maiden race of the day.

Happily, after a plan B was hatched Coastal Tiep lined up in the three mile maiden that day. This time he made no mistakes jumping well and overcoming greenness to take a commanding victory.
